Ashen Imitation is a side quest in Torment: Tides of Numenera.
Synopsis[ | ]
After I was strangled to death by a ghostly woman in the Fifth Eye, I awoke in a new fathom of the Labyrinth. There I met the ghost again. She claimed that women in Sagus Cliffs are being transformed into copies of her, though she doesn't know how or why, and she wants to help them if she can. The ghostly woman asked me to look for women who resemble her, or whose identities are being altered by an outside force. When I find such women, I should return to the Labyrinth and tell her.
Walkthrough[ | ]
- There are five women in total across the city. While you only strictly need to track down three to restore the Ghostly Woman's memory and progress with the quest, finding four or all of the women allows for a non-violent resolution. The women are as follows:
- Loss-of-self, found north-east of the Fifth Eye Tavern. For female payer characters, completing Ashen Imitation also resolves her related quest, Wayward Daughter.
- Avina, the young flute player just south of the Fifth Eye Tavern.
- Sigyn, Captain of the Levies, found standing between the two Levy guards in front of the closed Council Tower just behind the Council Clerk.
- Kiyatawa, a cultist found in the Dendra O'Hur Chapel in the Underbelly. She is also heavily involved in the Circles in Red quest.
- Seria, a reflection of a dead woman who manifests in The Calm. Discovering her body during the quest The Sorrow's Prey will cause her outline to manifest in Daughter's Fathom; to fully form her, you must either:
- Question the nearby cultists to discover Avina and the other children looted the building. You can then convince Avina to give you the Interdimensional Puzzle Box; giving it to the outline of Seria in Daughter's Fathom will cause her to fully manifest.
- Use the Tidal Surge: Tidal Affinity ability to force her to fully manifest.
- After speaking with each woman and remarking on their familiar appearances, a reflection of them will appear inside Daughter's Fathom. Interacting with each of these reflections will slowly expand Daughter's Fathom, recover the Ghostly Woman's memories, and reveal more about her past and the reason behind her "copies".
- Once three reflections have been interacted with, a Ghostly Man will appear in front of the probability machine in the entrance of Daughter's Fathom, and the Ghostly Woman will ask you to stop him.
- You can either:
- Use Intellect (Persuasion) to convince the Ghostly Man to stop the machine (if you have found at least 4 of the women), OR
- Fight and defeat the Tabaht guards he summons
- Regardless of which you choose, you obtain the codes to disable the probability machine.
- The final step lies at the Buried Crossroads. Head over there, either by asking Ch'ket to take you to the Sticha Lair (after having completed Shaky Foundations) or using the Stichus Automaton (though, beware that doing this before completing Shaky Foundations will mean the lair is full of hostile Sticha). The entrance to the Buried Crossroads is in the south-west corner of the lair.
- Shut the machine down. As you interact with the machine, a force will stop your hand. You can use Intellect (Concentration, Tidal Affinity) to overcome it and shut the machine down. Once you accomplish that, Callistege, if present, will ask you about your actions.
