Joria

Joria is a city located on the back of a giant crustacean that swims throughout the Ninth World's Seas. It is home to the jorians.

Background[ | ]

The creature that Joria rests atop is called a granthu and it moves slowly but steadily throughout the ocean. It travels in 50 year long orbit from the Deep Dark to the Gloaming all the way to the shallows and Back. During this period, it spends about 35 years in the Deep Dark, about 15 years in the Gloaming and perhaps a month or so within the Shallows. While a majority of the city is built on top of the granthu the first floor actually pierces its exoskeleton and is considered part of the actual creature as well. Joria is primarily comprised of tall, thick walls carved from molded stone, sporting large metallic orbs alongside membranous, similarly-sized orbs made from mesh and synth. Lastly, a some triangular towers peak out above the structure.

Nearly half of the city's interior is completely flooded while the rest is filled with pressurized air, reminiscent of the Jorians' amphibious nature. [1]

Blue Mazars[ | ]

The blue mazars are a special group of jorians that are entrusted with all the extensive knowledge of the Jorians' ongoing search. Throughout their search, they've accumulated a large amount of work that details the entire ocean with great precision. [2]

The Peacebringer and the Warholder[ | ]

An elected couple serve as the central ruling body of Joria. The Peacebringer is an official who's skilled with persuasion, mediation, and diplomacy, while the Warholder incites the citizenry to action whenever necessary. The current Peacebringer is a male jorian named Heu while the current Warholder is a female human named Shyphe. The latter was blinded from an accident in the past and holds a reputation for both motivating and mobilizing those around her. [3]

A Dangerous Cure:[ | ]

A chiurgeon by the name of Fue thinks he's found a cure for gastric acid addiction. One of the ingredients he requires happens to be the freshly-plucked heart of a living death crab. Unfortunately, the creature's are too tough for him to take on alone.

The Truth Is Out There:[ | ]

A male jorian named Gea mans a honing signal in one of the triangular towers. Having heard a response to one of his recent transmissions, he claims it's a more of a distress call rather than something from the kithkind. To investigate the matter, he'll requires a crew.

Weird[ | ]

Don't Go Near the Water:[ | ]

A strange, rainbow-colored fungus has been growing lately in one of the Main's aquatic gardens, slowly gaining the shape of a miniature granthu.

Fight Song:[ | ]

/a strange, low crooning noise emanates from one of the closed-off areas from the near the rear of Joria. Something about the sound causes anyone who hears it to suddenly want to attack their loved ones. [5]

Miscellaneous[ | ]

I do believe there are other peoples such as ourselves, out their in our world. That there are other granthu such as our own. And that some day the orbits of our granthu will overlap and we will come to meet and know our true kithkind.
~ Diu

[6]

While within the shallows, the granthu will molt and shed patches of algae-covered shell until finally revealing a newer, pink exoskeleton underneath, the only place untouched is the spot where Joria sits. [7]

The inhabitants of Joria firmly believe that the Ninth World holds many more of cities like their own with people just like them. It's just that, supposedly, because of their different orbits, none of these other cities have come close enough to either be seen or contacted by the jorians. [8]
